Interior designers are often asked to arrange furniture in a room. This is just one of their many jobs. Designers study and practice putting furniture in a room's space, and they get so good at it that when they walk into a room, they usually see two or three ways to arrange the furniture in their heads.

I'll look at your place first. Look at it closely. Look at the window sills. How high are they? Take a look at the doors. Are they in a corner or the middle of a wall? Look for things like fireplaces in the building. Think about the room's size and shape.
